The following programs can help to reduce this financial out-lay:
Australian Computer Society (ACS) PC Recycling Scheme (external link) - is a not for profit group that provides low cost recycled computers to individuals on a low income and charity or a non-profit organisations.
Business to Community Recyclers (external link) - is a not for profit organisations that refurbishes and supplies cost-free or low-cost PC's to local communities, as well as overseas communities identified by World Vision as communities in need.
Computer Technologies for Schools Project (external link) - provides surplus Australian Government ICT equipment to schools across Australia to enable students and teachers to better understand new technologies.
DonorTec (external link) - aims to assist a wide range of charities and Income Exempt non-profit organisations by providing donated software and hardware for a small administration fee, in conjunction with donor partners, Microsoft and Cisco. The DonorTec program is delivered in Australia by CommunIT, a CISA project, in partnership with TechSoup (external link) in the US. Latest product updates include Microsoft Office 2007 and the Vista operating system.
Green PC (external link) - refurbishes and recycles computers and equipment for use by individuals and community organisations. Green PC's computers are made available to low-income individuals and community organisations.
ITShare Incorporated (ITShareSA) - is a not for profit organisation that provides low cost computer systems to disadvantaged members of the community (including individuals, community organisations and Non Government Organisations (NGO's)).
Microsoft Fresh Start for Donated Computers program (external link) - is set up specifically for primary and secondary schools to help eliminate confusion about whether donated personal computers have a legitimate operating system license. The program provides license documentation and Windows installation CDs—at no cost—for an original Windows operating system on qualifying donated personal computers.
