2011 Volunteers Day

In 2011, South Australia's annual Volunteers Day Concert was held on Monday 13 June 2011 at the Festival Theatre.

Approximately 2,000 of the State's volunteers gathered at the popular event to celebrate Volunteers Day.

Staged in collaboration with the Adelaide Cabaret Festival and with Peter Goers from 'ABC Radio 891' as MC, the concert featured the Vice Regal address, two performances direct from the Festival program, Cabaret ticket giveaways and more.

During the concert, Minister for Volunteers, Grace Portolesi, and the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, presented the South Australian Volunteer Awards to some oustanding individuals, businesses, and community projects:

  • Kate Smith won the Joy Noble Medal for her outstanding efforts as a volunteer with Disability SA and for the leadership qualities demonstrated in the role of educator and advocate for Disability SA residents at Highgate Park.
  • CMI Toyota won the Premier’s Business Award in Volunteering for their strong support and commitment to volunteering and to the environment, by providing support to Adelaide Conservation Volunteers.
  • The International Women’s Group won The Andamooka community project award for their continued support of women and their families from African countries to settle into a new country with a very different cultural background from that which they had left.
