2014 Volunteers Day

 It was a close to a capacity house at Volunteers Day 2014 with up to 1,800 of the State's volunteers gathering at the Festival Theatre to help celebrate volunteers and volunteering in South Australia.

A special feature of the celebrations was the presentation of the South Australian Awards by the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR and the Premier, Hon Jay Weatherill MP. The recipients of this year's Awards were:

  • Ms Cholly Winter from Filipino Aged Care of SA Inc. who was awarded the Joy Noble Medal in recognition of her outstanding passion and determination for volunteering over the past 37 years
  • Capgemini Business Services Australia Pty Ltd awarded the Premier's Award for Corporate Social Responsibility for its delivery of an ongoing corporate social responsibility program successfully partnering with a variety of community organisations
  • The Cummins Hospital Adopt-a-Room Project awarded the Andamooka Community Project Award for their outstanding volunteer involvement in upgrading and refurbishing rooms and facilities at the Cummins and District War Memorial Hospital on the Eyre Peninsula

The Volunteers Day celebration also featured the release of the Minister for Volunteers Report for 2014.

The report looks back on the past year's volunteering achievements. In particular the report highlights the range of initiatives and programs developed and delivered in partnership with the volunteering sector.
