2007 Volunteers Day Celebration
South Australia’s Volunteer Day celebration a great success |
Compered by ABC Radio’s Peter Goers, the program also included a high octane performance by the Burundi Drum Club from Central Africa. The traditional Kaurna welcome was given by Karl Telfer.
A major highlight of the day was the presentation of the Premier’s Business Awards, Joy Noble Medal and the new inaugural Community Project Award by the outgoing Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency Marjorie Jackson-Nelson, and the Hon Jennifer Rankine MP, Minister for Volunteers.
Premier's Business Awards went to Agriexchange and South Australian Murray Darling Basin Resource Information Centre (SAMRIC Inc); Minter Ellison and Thomson Playford; Moonta Building and Landscape Supplies; as well as Savings and Loans Credit Union for their outstanding support for volunteering. Joy Noble Medal winners were Majorie Morritt, Lloyd Leah and Philip Tavender for outstanding volunteer service to government volunteer programs.
The first Community Project Award went to the Andamooka Progress and Opal Miners Association for their extraordinary work on the 29 kilometre water pipeline to Andamooka.
South Australia's Volunteers Day celebration is aimed at thanking and honouring volunteers’ contribution to the welfare of their community and the 2007 event was no exception.

ACT Partnership Report launched at Volunteers Day
Everyone who attended the Volunteers Day celebration at the Adelaide Festival Theatre received a copy of the 2007 Office for Volunteers ACT Partnership Report. You can download a copy by visiting our reports page.
Report correction - please note that page 21 of the report incorrectly refers to ‘Friends of Parks’ as the winner of the Banksia Award for Community Programs in 2006. ‘Trees For Life’ was recognised nationally that year when it won the award for its Tree Scheme.
