Volunteer Projects In the Community
Every year there are a range of projects undertaken by volunteers. These projects range from planting trees in small public reserves to redevelopments to community properties.
This page aims to share some of those projects with the community. If you know of a project that would be worthwhile sharing with other communities please give us a call on 8463 4412.
AUSTRALIAN JAZZ LEGEND
JAMES MORRISON
GETS BEHIND A $500,000 RENOVATION PROJECT
AT THE WOMEN’S & CHILDREN’S
HOSPITAL
World-renowned Australian jazz musician James
Morrison recently supported a $500,000 project
undertaken by a group of South Australian
churches, to renovate an accommodation block
at the Women’s & Children’s
Hospital.
The hospital’s accommodation unit provides
short-to-medium term accommodation for families
with children in hospital, and women from rural
areas and interstate who need to be close to
specialist care.
The renovation project, undertaken in late 2006,
utilised the efforts
of hundreds of volunteers from South Australian
churches.
It is the first time a group of churches from a variety of different denominations have come together to embark on a community service project of this nature and magnitude.
This project is an initiative of the Churches of South Australia. Previous projects the Churches have completed include a $250,000 upgrade to the Women’s Prison visitation area which was completed in July this year. A Community Assignment’ project resulting in more than $100,000 worth of voluntary community service projects across Adelaide in 2005, and in 2004 the church carried out a renovation of Morphett Vale High School worth $300,000.
